Mainwaring, under the Homes alias, wrote Build My Gallows High and the screenplay for the Robert Mitchum/Kirk Douglas film on which it is based, Out Of The Past. After a string of mystery novels, Mainwaring became primarily a screenwriter for Hollywood and, eventually, for television. His most successful endeavor was writing the screenplay for Invasion Of The Body-Snatchers.
