This is Patterson’s 2nd novel, a follow-up to his Edgar Award-winning debut, The Thomas Berryman Number, published in 1976.

From what I’ve read, this is not quite as polished or sophisticated as his more recent works. I’ve only acquired first editions of this book and have resisted the temptation to read them to avoid damaging them. I’ll get a reading copy eventually…
